Competitions

International

The 65th Coupe Mondiale, organised by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes, was held in Spoleto, Italy on August 21 - 25, 2012.
The Confédération Mondiale de l'Accordéon organises the yearly Trophée Mondiale de l'Accordéon. It will next be held in Pineto, Italy, September 13 - 18, 2011.

Australia

The 2008 Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival, organised by the Australian Accordion Teachers Organisation, will be held on June 7 - 8 in Sydney.

Canada

The Kimberley International Old Time Accordion Championships in Kimberley B.C., Canada, July 10 - 15, 2006

Croatia

Cultural Youth Organisation OKUD Istra from Pula, Croatia, was founded in 1959. It organises the yearly Pula International Accordion Competition, the 37th of which will be held April 25 - 28, 2012. OKUD Istra also encompasses two accordion orchestras: Harmonikaški orkestar "Stanko Mihovilić" Accordion Orchestra, () named after its founder and longtime conductor, and a youth orchestra, Orkestar "Čvrčak", () both of which have done well in various international competitions. OKUD Istra also teaches accordion and other instruments.

Finland

The Finnish Accordion Institute publishes CDs, LPs, sheet music, books, etc. It also has an accordion museum, and September 18 - 22, 2001 it organised the first International Lasse Pihlajamaa Competition.

France

The Roland V-Accordion Festival 2008 () / () is open to any accordionist -- entry by sending a tape, before July 15th, 2008. The semifinals for France and the Benelux will be held in the Eiffel Tower, Paris, on September 27, 2008; the finals for the Senior category will be held in Rome in November.

Germany

International Accordion Competition Klingenthal () in Klingenthal, Germany, May 4 - 10, 2007, for soloists, duos and ensembles.

Ireland

To celebrate the 40th All-Ireland AccordionFestival the Irish Accordion Association will host the first Irish Open Accordion Festival with accordion players from different countries. The festival is a competition for all age groups and standards, with traditional, classical and popular music incorporated in this event. It will be held in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan, Co.Meath on April 15 - 17, 2011.

The 4th Festival and International Contest Etnie Musicali will be held in Teramo, Italy on January 16-17, 2010. Categories are: diatonic accordion (up to 4 basses); diatonic accordion (over 4 basses); accordion virtuoso (variété); classic accordion; electronic keyboards / modern piano; modern song; and international prize "Etnie Musicali", final trial. With special guests Sergio Scappini (classical accordion), Mario D'Amario ( virtuoso accordion), and Andrea Tini (diatonic accordion and the winner of the last final trial ).
The 2005 edition of the International Composition Competition F. Evangelisti in Rome is a competition for compositions for the Bayan Accordion in chamber music, either solo or in ensemble. The deadline for entry is 15 September 2005; the six finalist scores will be performed by Germano Scurti and by the Alter Ego ensemble on December 10, 2005 during Nuova Consonanza Festival.
Fisa...armonie is an international competition held in Trieste, Italy for accordion soloists, concert players and chamber ensembles. The fifth edition will be held September 28 - 30, 2007.
The 9th edition of the International Astor Piazzolla Award will be held in Udine, Italy, on October 30th - November 1st, 2002. The competition is open to groups and solists playing music by Astor PIazzolla; the application deadline is October 15th, 2002.
The International Music Competitions of Val Tidone, Italy, June 7 - 13, 2004 include the "Carlo Civardi" Classical and Varieté Accordion Prize, as well as chamber music and composition competitions in which accordionists can enter. There is also a National Competition on June 5-6, an International Masterclass Project July 28 - August 7, 2004 and A festival running from May to September

Japan

The 4th JAA International Accordion competition organised by the Japanese Accordion Association, was held in Tokyo on August 26, 2005.

The Netherlands

The NOVAM organises the 2009 National Accordion Competition for solists and chamber music on March 22, 2009 in Amstelveen; registration until February 14.

New Zealand

The New Zealand Accordion Association organises the South Pacific Accordion Championships and the New Zealand Accordion Championships and Festival in Auckland, New Zealand, on May 30 - June 1, 2008 in Auckland. They also organise concerts, workshops, socials, etc., and they bring out a newsletter every 2 to 3 months.

Russia

The 18th International Festival "Bayan and bayanists" () will next be held December 13 - 17, 2006 at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow. The website also has information about the "Friedrich Lips Fund".

Spain

Hauspoz, the Basque Accordion Association, aims to promote the accordion music, and artists and future artists. They organise '3rd International Composition Competition "FRANCISCO ESCUDERO"' (for accordion solo and chamber music works). The prize ceremony will be held on Saturday September 18, 2010 in Zarautz. Also, they organize the annual "Arrasate Hiria" International Accordion Competition, the 18th of which will be held in Mondragón on December 4 - 8, 2010, together with the 31st Guipuzcoano Accordion Competition and the 23rd Guipuzcoano Accordion Festival.
Associación Galega de acordeonistas () the Galician Accordion Association, organises amongst others a yearly national accordion competition -- the 50th of which will be held in 2007

United Kingdom

The NAO UK Championships & Festival 2008 were held April 25 - 27 in Blackpool

USA

The Accordion Teachers Association of Massachusetts sponsors the annual New England Music Competition and Festival. The next one is April 3 - 5, 2009, in Newton, Massachusetts.
The Mid Atlantic Music Teachers Guild organises a yearly Spring Festival and Competition (with categories for accordion). It will next be held March 26 - 28, 2010 in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Concerts

The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles organises a series of free Sunset Concerts, amongst which Hungarian Gypsy folk band Parno Graszt on July 22, 2010 (with on July 21 "Ramblers, Roamers, Vagabonds", a documentary about them), and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys on August 5th, 2010.

Australia

The Queensland Accordion Orchestra organises a Variety Concert at the Kendron Wavell Services Club in Chermside, Brisbane, on Sunday November 18, 2006, starting 2 pm. Also performing is vocalist Mary Martin. For further info contact Mary, (07) 3359 4896.

Switzerland

Accordéon Club des 100 () organises concerts and workshops all over Switzerland. Past performers include e.g. Kotwitz, Marocco, Sharov, Fabiano, and Sidorov.

USA

In Los Angeles, on December 8th, 2008, as part of the Monday Evening Concerts series, Teodoro Anzellotti will perform "Dialog über Luft" by Vinko Globokar, "Tombeau sur la mort de Monsieur Blancheroche" by Johann Jakob Froberger, and "Sequenza XIII" by Luciano Berio. On Sunday December 7th Uli Aumüller's documentary "The art of seduction: Teodoro Anzellotti's accordion" will be shown, followed by a live performance and an audience discussion.

Australia

The Accordion Society of Australia publishes a quarterly magazine, Accordion Review. It organises its 34th International Festival and 35st annual congress in Melbourne, Victoria on July 4 - 10, 2005.

Austria

promonica-west is a bi-annual festival in Graz, which will next be held June 5 - 8, 2008. It is a festival for free-reed instruments, in particular accordion, Steyrische and harmonica (mouth organ), with an emphasis is on active music making, with concerts, workshops, taster sessions, etc.
Tag der Harmonika 2008 () will be held May 23 - 25, in Salzburg, with concerts and competitions for (piano) accordion, Steyrische accordion and mouth organ.
The Internationales Akkordeonfestival Wien () in Vienna, February 24 - March 25, 2007 features many concerts in many locations (many of which are double concerts), as well as workshops (every Wednesday afternoon). Artists include Otto Lechner, Régis Gizavo, Riccardo Tesi and many others

Brazil

The first Festival Internacional da Sanfona () (International Accordion Festival) [flash site] on March 16 - 21, 2009 in Juazeiro and Petrolina, in the Bahia province. Artists include Mirco Patarini, Dominguinhos, Oswaldinho, Renato Borghetti, Targino Gondim, and Luizinho Calixto, and the festival will also include master classes, shows, speeches and exhibitions all over the cities.

Canada

The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society organises their 5th Accordion Fest, in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island, August 11 - 13, 2006. It is headlined by Leo Aquino and by Tango Abrazo.
The Edmonton Accordion Society organises a yearly Accordion Extravaganza (in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada),
SJFAC's Accordion Revolution on August 6th, 2005, was a record attempt during the 29th Annual Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival, in St John's, Newfoundland. The Czech Republic

The 5th Prague Accordion and Harmonica Days will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, on October 27 - 30, 2011. The competition is open to amateur harmonica and accordion ensembles and orchestras. It is held biannually, alternating with the European Festival of Accordion Orchestras, also in Prague, the 6th of which will be held on October 28 - 31, 2010.

Denmark

The Dansk Harmonika- & Spillemands Træfforening, the Danish Accordion & Folklore Festival Society organises two accordion festivals: The Ringe accordion festival in Ringe, next held June 15 - 17, 2007, and the Lundeborg festival in Lundeborg, which will be next be held September 1 - 3, 2006
Dragstruptræf () is a yearly accordion festival, held on the island of Mors every May. The next one will be May 20 - 23, 2010.

Finland

The 12th Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival will be held February 12 - 21, 2010. It includes an Accordion Skiing event...

France

Le Grand Soufflet () is an annual accordion festival in the Ille et Valaine region of Bretony (Rennes and surrounding area), founded by Etienne Grandjean. The 13th edition will be held October 9 - 18, 2008.
The fifth edition of accordion festival Le Printemps des Bretelles () was held in Montreal on May 14 - 18, 2003. From May 9 to June 1, 2003 "Le Bal des Bretelles" is on tour (in Canada), with Didier Dumoutier, Vladimir Sidorov and Daniel Thonon (or Luc Lopez).
The traditional instrument makers festival Les Rencontres Internationales de Saint Chartier in France, July 12 - 15, 2007, with a number of accordion manufacturers. And with concerts, of course.
Nuits de Nacre () is an accordion festival in Tulle (in Corrèze), organised by association "La Cité de l'Accordéon. It is next held on September 14 - 17, 2006, with the tag line "Quand la femme porte les bretelles" -- so lots of female accordionists.

Germany

Akkordeonale () is a touring accordion festival, organised by Servais Haanen, with concerts all over Germany (and one in Linz, Austria). In 2011 the tour starts on April 1 in Karlsruhe, and ends April 23 in Marburg. Performing artists are Cathrin Pfeiffer, Vladimir Denissenkov, Estevão "Iduino" Tavares, Donatello Pisanello, and Servais Haanen (together with Johanna Stein on cello and Marco A. Fox on percussion). Also, December 2-4, 2011 there will be the Fürstenecker Akkordeonale-Workshops. ()
Carsfeld () in Germany is where the Bandoneon was invented -- on the site of its Tourist Information Bureau, there are a few pages a description and diagrams of the instrument, its history and a few sound clips. Also, there is a yearly Bandoneon Meeting in Carsfeld, which will next be held October 7 - 9, 2005.

Iceland

The Reykjavik Accordion Festival will next be held July 19 - 20, 2008. A CD featuring all the performers of the 2003 festival has been published.
The Samband íslenskra harmonikuunnenda () (the Association of Icelandic Accordion Societies?) seems to organise a yearly festival; the last was held in Neskaupstað, July 7 - 10, 2005.

Ireland

Ennis Trad Festival in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland, November 11 - 15, 2005

Italy

The 7th Accordion Art Festival will be held in Pineto on June 15 - 16, 2013. The festival consists of 2 concerts and 3 competitions: the "Orpheus" award for the best (Italian) accordion CDs, the "Italy" award for young accordionists, and a national selection for the C.M.A. Trophée Mondiale competition.
Fisarmoniche nel Parco, () "Accordions in the Park" is a festival in Pescasseroli, in the Abruzzo National Park, held July 25 - August 8, 2010. The program includes concerts every night, a competition on August 6, a jazz accordion seminar (Renzo Ruggieri, August 2 - 5), an organetto workshop (Danilo Di Paolonicola, August 7), an accordion museum, lectures, etc.

Japan

The Japan Accordion Association publishes a magazine "Accordionist". In 2005 they organised the Accordion Summer Festa 2005 in Tokyo on August 25 - 31; part of the festival was the 4th JAA International Accordion Competition.

The Netherlands

The 4th Festival de Accordeonslag () is a series of concerts, workshops etc. in 20 cities in the Netherlands and Belgium, from February 25 - April 3, 2011. Artists include Kimmo Pohjonen's K-Cube, Riccardo Tesi, Renato Borghetti, Stanislav Jusufovic, Deux Accordeons Diront and many others
The River Zydeco Band from Brabant, the Netherlands, with Jo van Strien on Accordion, play only one kind of music: Zydeco! They are also responsible for the yearly Zydeco Zity in Raamsdonkveer, the Netherlands, a.k.a. Zydeco Zity. It will next be held June 12 - 14, 2009.
The 11th festival Het Accordeon () in Deventer, the Netherlands, will be held February 11 - 14, 2010, with Frank Marocco, Motion Trio, Petra Berger and Tango Dorado, Riccardo Tesi, Wu Wei, Carel Kraayenhof with the Orkest van het Oosten, and many others.
Accordion Festival Frisse Wind will be held in De Oosterpoort in Groningen on February 28, 2009, from 12:00 to 23:00. The program includes concerts and/or workshops by Neptunus, Con Brio, Nederlands Jeugd Accordeonorkest, Nihad Hrustanbegovic, Brouwer's Akkordeonorkest, Mark Söhngen, Bart Lelivelt, Prins Bajaja (7+), Gertie Bruin & Theo Bodewits, Larissa Groeneveld & Janne Rättyä, Nederlands Accordeon Ensemble, Otine van Erp, Marc Pantus & Oleg Fateev, Alexander Poeluev and Sébastien Bertrand & Alain Pennec.

Stichting Wereldmuziek in Limburg () (in the Netherlands) organises a yearly Klezmer festival (the second one was January 16, 1999), and in the summer of 1999 they co-organise the WOMAD Limburg festival.
REL Festival 2009 will be held on November 7, 2009 in Kampen. During the day there are concerts, and two play-in orchestras, conducted by Helmut Quackernack and René te Bogt; in the evening there is a gala concert.

The 5th Band Accordion Music Festival Koszalin will be held September 22 - 28, 2005 in Koszalin, Poland.

Portugal

festim is an "intermunicipal world music festival" with concerts in various locations in the district of Alveira, between May 24 and July 29, 2009. Artists include Kepa Junkera, Antonio Rivas, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band and Le Vent Du Nord. Various outdoor concerts are free.

Sweden

In Värmland, Sweden, Värmlands Dragspelsklubbars Förbund () organises "Bälgspel vid landsvägskanten", () a.k.a. Ransäter Accordion Festival. It is the largest accordion festival in Scandinavia, with over 200 orchestras. It will next be held July 7 - 11, 2011.

Switzerland

The yearly international Akkordeon Festival Zug () will be held September 17 - 26, 2009, with performances by Teodoro Anzelotti, Markku Lepistö, Renato Borghetti and many others.

United Kingdom

The yearly Angus Accordion and Fiddle Festival will be next held July 5 - 8, 2012 in Arbroath, Scotland, with a Scottish Variety Show, pub sessions and lots of Scottish dancing.
BigNationalCeilidh on October 18, 2008 is a night with ceilidhs all over the UK with proceeds going to the charity Water Aid.
The next Eastbourne Accordion Festival is the Autumn Break, October 10 - 13, 2008 in Eastbourne, UK; there's also a Roland V Accordion Weekend, September 6 - 7, 2008, and an Accordion Teaching Week, September 8 - 13, 2008. The Winter Accordion Weekend will be held February 19 - 22, 2010, and the 2009 Accordion Autumn Weekend will be October 16 - 19.
The Isle of Skye Accordion & Fiddle Club meets first Thursday of the month, from October to May. Also, they organise the annual Isle of Skye Accordion & Fiddle Festival, next held on May 27 - 29, 2010.

This year's Warwick Folk Festival, July 21 - 23, 2006 features the (Anglo) Concertina, with a Concertina Convention with workshops by the likes of John Kirkpatrick, Brian Peters, Chris Sherburn, Alan Day, and Jody Kruskal.

USA

Texas Folklife Resources will organise the 19th annual "Accordion Kings and Queens" in Houston, Texas, on June 7, 2008. Featured Step Rideau & his Zydeco Outlaws, La Tropa F and the Knights of Dixie -- as well as the finalists of the "Big Squeeze" competition, which is open to young Texas and Lousiana accordionists. The deadline for that competition is March 31.
The Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (formerly the Accordion Teachers Guild, International) is dedicated to the advancement of the accordion, through raising of teaching standards and promotion of all aspects of the accordion. They will organise the 2010 ATG "70th Anniversary Celebration" and "Anthony Galla-Rini International Competition for Classical Accordion" on July 21-25, 2010 in Santa Clara, California.
The American Accordionists' Association aims to promote the accordion to the general public, and to support the accordion community, by organising competitions, workshops, etc., and by publishing a quarterly newsletter. They organise a yearly festival, which will next be held July 14 - 18, 2010 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with competitions, concerts, workshops, etcetera.
Angels and Accordions is an annual event at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York (last held October 10, 2009), with modern dance performances, accordion music and song at various stations. A review of the 2006 "Angel and Accordions" performance
The 2nd Orange County Accordion Festival, "The Big Squeeze" will be held in Orange County Market Place on October 10, 2010, with lots of music on 4 stages, dancing lessons, stalls, etc.
The Cajun French Music Association is dedicated to promoting Cajun music and culture. Amongst others they organise "Le Cajun" Music Awards and Festival, next held August 19 - 21, 2005 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The 23rd Annual Cotati Accordion Festival will be held on August 17 - 18, 2013 at La Plaza Park in Downtown Cotati, California, 40 miles north of San Francisco. With 20+ accordionists and bands, 4 stages, polka, zydeco, accordion vendors, food, workshops, and films.
Dance Vortex, A weekend of Cajun, Zydeco, swing & waltz dancing and music in Mentone, AL, will be held on October 3 - 5, 2008.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Texas, organises a yearly Tejano Conjunto Festival, which will next be held May 6 - 10, 2008. Besides, they organise Xicano music classes, including beginner and intermediate accordion. They also organise concerts.
The 2010 International Accordion Festival in San Antonio, Texas, October 15 - 17, 2010 will feature music from around the globe: cajun, merengue, Zydeco, conjunto, Klezmer, Vallenato, French Canadian music, Basque music, Irish music, and more.
The next Las Vegas International Accordion Convention will be held November 1 - 4, 2010, in memory of Art Van Damme. With many workshops and master classes, an orchestra, plus concerts.
Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration is held each June in the Bavarian style village of Leavenworth, Washington. The next one will be June 16 - 19, 2011. The National Accordion Awareness Month -- June -- was established in 1989 by Tom Torriglia, and he seems to be fairly good at generating publicity for the instrument with it.
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, with plenty Cajun and Zydeco music of course, will next be held April 28 - May 7, 2006.
The Northeast Squeeze-In Festival, in Washington, Massachusetts (?), September 1 - 3, 2006 (Labour Day Weekend), sponsored by The Button Box.
The Big Squeeze, the 4th annual Orange County Accordion Festival, will be held on Sunday October 14 in the Orange County Marketplace, Performers include JoJo Reed & the Happy Hill Zydeco Band, David Sousa & the Zydeco Mudbugs, Steven Albini and Jim Gilman and many others.
The 2007 Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival in Plaisance, Louisiana, will be held on August 30 - September 1, preceded by the First Zydeco King & Queen Ball on August 18.
The Rocky Mountain Accordion Celebration is an annual festival in Philipsburg, Montana, last held August 3 - 5, 2007. It features a weekend of dancing and listening to music, steak barbeques and outdoor pancake breakfasts, concerts, and a parade of homemade pies.
The 25th annual Santa Barbara French Festival, will be held in Santa Barbara, California on July 13 - 14, 2013 (Bastille Day Weekend), with two days of non-stop entertainment on 3 stages -- including one stage devoted only to accordion music.
Los Angeles Accordion Festival presents SqueezeFestLA on June 28th, 2009, with performances by Vagabond Opera, Conjunto Los Pochos and cajun band Feufollet.
The National Accordion Association (formerly the Texas Accordion Association) aims to promote performance of all types of music on the accordion and promote the accordion as a serious musical instrument. They do this amongst others by organising a yearly Convention, with workshops, orchestras and concerts -- the next one, the 2012 National Accordion Convention, will be held March 14 - 17 in Dallas, Texas. Also, they sponsor the National Button Accordion Festival, which will next be held May 25 - 37, 2012 (Memorial Day weekend) in Bessemer, Pennsylvania.

Artedu organises holiday courses and workshops in France -- mostly drawing and painting, but also an accordion workshop. In 2010 they are given by Nihad Hrustanbegovic, and will be held June 27 - July 3, July 4 - 10, July 11 - 17, August 8 - 14, August 15 - 21 and August 22 - 28.
Diatononic accordionist François Heim () organises regular workshops in Chalap, near Alès.
Sylvie Jamet's accordion blog () deals with all all kinds of accordion music -- classical, jazz, world music, musette, etc. It contains information about various workshops, festivals, concerts, etc, mostly in France but also abroad, as well as articles about pedagogy, musicians, orchestras, composers, etc.

Mario Kliemann () plays anglo in Six Steps to the Bar, a German band playing Irish music. Quite a few concertina links as well, and he organises a yearly German Concertina Weekend, the 15th of which was held in Bielefeld on May 12 - 14, 2006.
Musica Viva () provides holiday music workshops in Tuscany, South Tyrol and in Germany. In 2007 there is a beginners workshop "from Bach to Piazolla", led by Annegret Cratz, May 25 - 28; a medium/advanced workshop American Folk, led by Alan Bern, June 7 - 10, and medium/advanced workshop Balkan, South and East-European folk music led by Alan Bern and Franka Lampe, September 1 - 8. All three are in Germany.

Italy

Diatonic Accordion Academy Accademia del Mantice teaches the diatonic accordion, in courses held in Rome and in other Italian and european cities, but also with an on-line course.
Ivano Battiston teaches various masterclasses: July 21 - 28, 2007 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy; August 27 - 30 in Chiusi della Verna, Italy; and September 3 11 in Apollonia, Albania.
Claudio Jacomucci is a contemporary solo accordionist and Alexander technique teacher. He has played both solo, in duo Acco Land with Anne Landa, and in various ensembles, and he gives workshops to musicians, performers, and dancers. Amongst others he organises and teaches at an Accordion High School in Rimini from October 2009 to June 2010, with master classes by himself, and Alexander Technique teacher Kathleen Delaney.
Associazione Musica Temporis organises music workshops in Villamagna, Italy, near Florence -- amongst others an accordion workshop on July 19 - 23, 2005, led by Massimo Signorini.
The International Music Accordion Camp is organised by Peter and Mady Soave and Jean-Louis Noton. In 2010 there will be two sessions: July 25 - August 1, and August 1 - 8.

The NOVAM activities diary () of workshops, competitions etc. organised by the NOVAM, Dutch Organisation for Accordion and Harmonica Societies.
On October 18, 2008 the NOVAM organises a master class "De Muziek Meester" in "De Bron" in Alphen aan de Rijn. Two compositions will be treated: "Vertrek" by Jense Meek, in which percussion has an important role, and "Avondlied" by Alexander Comitas. The master class is meant for accordion orchestra conductors, amateur conductor course students and graduates, conservatory students, advanced accordionists and students of composition, as well as young acordionists and percussionists. The master class will be given by conductor Sergé Latychev and percussionist Lex Bak, with cooperation of accordion orchestra Alphen Opus 2. United Kingdom

The Burwell Bash is a residential folk music summer school, in Burwell House, near Cambridge, England. The next one will be July 28 - August 1, 2008. Both instrument and band workshops are offered; Sam Pirt will be the accordion tutor.
Folkworks organises a yearly summerschool in Durham, an Adult summer school and Junior and Youth summer schools. Workshops include others English concertina, piano accordion and diatonic accordion. The next one is August 8 - 13, 2011 (Agust 10 - 13 for the Junior summer school). For the adult summer school tutors include Ian Lowthian for piano accordion, and Andy Cutting for melodeon, and Alistair Anderson for concertina; for the junior summer school (co-directed by Sam Pirt): Andy Cutting and Julian Sutton for melodeon, Alistair Anderson for concertina; and Amy Thatcher for accordion Folkworks also organise a 'workout weekend' in Darlington in October. site,
Hands on Music organises instrumental workshop weekends in Witney, England, under the direction of Dave Townsend. The workshops include including Concertinas at Witney (last held September 25 - 26, 2004), Melodeons at Witney (November 14 - 15, 2004), and Accordions at Witney (February 19 - 20, 2005). The tutors usually are excellent, both as teachers and as musicians!
February 27 - March 1, 2009, Issy Emeney will give a melodeon workshop in Staines, Middlesex. The workshop is organised by JSARTS. Some time in October 2009, David Oliver will be running an accordion related workshop, details to follow
Melodeons and More is an annual melodeon workshop day in Suffolk, organised by the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust. In 2010 it will be held in Mendlesham, on March 27. Tutors are Reess Wesson Mark Söhngen, Alex Goldsmith, Andy Cutting, Dave Townsend, Pete Coe, Katie Howson, Steve Dumpleton, Jean Harris and Ron Ross. The East Anglian Traditional Music Trust also runs melodeon maker courses, run by Emmanuel Pariselle, with the aid of Theo Gibb and Rees Wesson - the next one, for April 2010, is fully subscribed already.
The Swaledale Squeeze is an annual concertina workshop weekend, at the Grinton Lodge youth hostel in the Yorkshire Dales. In 2013 it will be held on May 17 - 19. Regular tutors are Harry Scurfield, Dave Ball, Carolyn Wade, Pauline de Snoo and Paul Walker; this year's guest tutors are Michael Jary, Cormac Begley and David Gardiner.

USA

At the Augusta Heritage Center of the Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia, in 2006 there are accordion courses at the Cajun and Creole week, July 9 - 14, "3 levels + Creole", as well as an accordion repair workshop led by Larry Miller; and there is a button accordion workshop at the Irish week, July 23 - 28.
The East European Folklife Center organises workshops on Balkan music and dance: June 26 - July 3, 2010 in Mendocino, California and August 7 - 14, 2010 in Rock Hill, New York.
The Fairbanks Summer Art Festival, held at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus from July 18 - August 1, 2010 includes button box and beginning piano accordion classes taught by Joe Smiell and intermediate and advanced accordion taught by Uri Sharlin, as well as a klezmer ensemble.
Louisiana Folk Roots is a non-profit organization founded by Christine Balfa and is dedicated to nurturing the unique folkways and cultural resources in Louisiana. They organise workshops in amongst others Cajun and Creole Accordion. The Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week was last held April 10 - 16, 2005, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, with Jeffery Broussard teaching Creole accordion and Kevin Naquin and Dirk Powell teaching Cajun accordion. They also run a monthly Creole and Cajun Acoustic Jam Session in Lafayette.
Noel Hill is an Irish concertina player, originally from County Clare. He organises the "Noel Hill Irish Concertina School" in various locations in the USA. In 2003 they were held in East Durham, New York (August 3 - 8), in Newberg, Oregon (August 10 - 15) and Cincinnati, Ohio (July 27 - August 1).
